![]() Rule Updates 9/18/2001
The following actions are grounds for disqualification(meaning you score zero points for the fight, but may continue.):
Mean-spirited rudeness in an OOC post. (Being rude IC is acceptable.) THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE!
Healing.
The following actions will cause you to recieve a penalty of 0 points for your post:
Teleportation, unless it is creatively done and sparingly used.
Movement by a character that is of the speed of sound or faster.
Creating doubles of yourself that can physically attack. (Unless it is a "Ghost Cancel.") However, illusions are fine.
Creating black-holes.
Altering time in any way.
Creating "portals" in space that lead from one place to another.
Using psychic ability to cause direct physical damage. It is ok to throw objects with telekenisis, but you may not punch your opponent with telekenisis.
"Terminator Shape-changing" to avoid damage or attack. For example, melting into a pool of liquid in order to dodge an attack is unfair. It is also unfair for spikes to sponteneously appear from your back, or blades from your arm. However, 1-time transformations are fine, as long as you cannot attack or defend by the act of transforming.
Attacking using a fighting-style that you did not list when you signed up.
Posting Rules:
You and your team-mate do not have to take turns. You may both post whenever you like, independant of each other. However, there are certain situations you should be aware of:
You may only have one outgoing attack at a time. If you make another attack before your previous attack has been responded to, your previous attack is considered "canceled." Fighters may ignore canceled attacks. If a canceled attack has already been responded to, the defense is automatically considered perfect.
If you are waiting for your opponent to respond to your attack, and his teammate also attacks you, you may defend/take damage from his teammate's attack without canceling your out-going attack.
Canceled attacks count towards your overall score. (Unless you cancel and attack the same fighter again. Doing so would make no sense, except as a cheap way to score more points, therefore doing so will result in an automatic zero for your post.)
You may not attack both opponents in the same post unless you do it with a single attack. If you do this, keep in mind that when you next attack, your previous attack is canceled against whomever has not yet responded.
Only one handle per player may be signed up in this competiton.

Posting Rules
You and your team-mate do not have to take turns. You may both post whenever you like, independant of each other. However, there are certain situations you should be aware of:
If you make an attack post, you must wait for a response from your target before making another post.
If you attack both enemies at the same time, you must wait for both of them to respond before posting again.
If you have posted an attack against enemyA, and enemyB posts an attack against you before enemyA responds, you may not respond to enemyB before enemyA responds to you. If you do, your attack against enemyA is considered canceled. However, in this situation you can get help from your teammate to defend you against enemyB, that way you wouldn't have to withdraw your attack from enemyA. Or, you could simply wait for enemyA to respond, and then counter enemyB at that time, but be aware if you do this you may have to counter both of them at the same time.
Canceled attacks do not count towards your overall score.
You should not chain your attacks with your teammate's. For example... your teammates states that he throws the enemy high into the air. You then follow up by throwing a fireball at the enemy as he is flying. This is a chain attack. If the enemy counters the throw, then your fireball attack is automatically invalidated, and the enemy can choose to ignore it. Instead, when teaming up against the enemy you should always attack in a way that doesn't rely on your team-mate's attack to be successful.
One additional Rule: This naturally goes without saying, but only one handle per player. Please don't sign up twice.
Judging Instructions
Only "combat posts" will be judged. Combat Posts must contain one of these 3 things: attacking, defending, or taking damage from an opponent.
Judges, you will be scoring all combat posts from 1-10 based on the following criteria:
Clarity: How clearly is the post written? Is it concise and easy to read? Deduct points for things that are not well described, as well as errors in grammar. Deduct points for posts that are too long... it's important to be concise.
Storytelling: Is the post fun to read? Does the writer have a good grasp of the character? Is the writer creative?Does the character stand out, or is it bland? Consider all these things.
Logic: Do the actions described in the post make sense? Are they plausible? Deduct points for a lack of continuity between posts, or actions that don't seem possible.
Fairness: The character must respect the attacks of his opponent. All characters are considered equal in the arena... that means a character shouldn't shrug off his opponent's attacks as if they don't effect him. If a fighter isn't taking his opponent's attacks seriously, he must be penalized. Also deduct points if the character takes an injury, but then seems to ignore this injury in the course of battle. Also deduct points if the attack seems way too over-powered.
When the match is over, you will determine the final scores like so:
Add up the scores of each team. Divide the total score for each team by the total number of combat posts made by each team.
This will give you the average score for each team, a number between 1-10.
Because you are averaging the scores, it doesn't matter how many posts each team makes, which is why they are allowed to post whenever they like.
Matches will be decided based on points scores, with one exception: if both members of a team are KO'ed, that team automatically loses.
Each match will only be judged by 1 judge... judges, you may divide the matches up amongst yourselves. If a team wants to challenge the decision made by that judge, they must both issue a challenge statement within 3 days after the end of the fight. If the scoring is challenged, the other 2 judges must also judge the match, and average thier scores in with the first judge's.
