Ezra and Ladd
Current Story
Ezra's friend Ladd was kidnapped by the Syndicate, whom want to use psychics as weapons. Ezra enlisted the help of a friend Spider-Kid to help rescue Ladd. In the process, they are attacked by a mercenary, Zero 4000, who has the ability to neutralize Ezra's powers. However, another warrior, Clive, suddenly comes to Ezra's aid. After the struggle is over, Zero has a change of heart, and decides to help Ezra in his search for Ladd. Eventually they find him, abandonned in an ally. Why Ladd rests up, Ezra and his friends decide to help out Gally's search party in the Catacombs (see Nefarious Witch plot).
After helping Gally retrieve the little girl Lilac, Ezra left the Bazaar to get healed in the Med Lab. Ladd's whereabouts are still relatively unknown, although his psychic signature reports that wherever he is, he's in no danger...
...Then why hasn't he contacted Ezra?
During his stay at the Med Lab following the Events of "The Nefarious Witch", Ezra met up with another boy in the children's ward, Brian David McEwan.
The two boys hit it off pretty well, becoming good friends in only a day or two. While both of them have a lot to learn about each other, they're as loyal to one another as a pair of blood brothers.
Taking off a little prematurely from their recommended stays at the Med Lab, Ezra and Brian are well on their way to the jungle in search of Ladd Benedict...
Upon finding Ladd in the deep jungles of the UFF island, Ezra, Spider-Kid, and Brian are shocked to learn that Ladd's gone off the deep end, accusing Ezra of abandoning him to die at the Syndicate's hands! Ezra's one-time ally blames him for the torture he endured in their clutches, cursing him for his "crimes".
Spider-Kid, Brian, and Ezra try to explain the truth to Ladd, but to no avail. A small battle ensues between them, resulting in Ezra's heart being broken and both he and Ladd becoming poisoned! However, little cracks of humanity begin to show in Ladd's shell of anger; until it finally crumbles, leaving Ladd in shambles over the pain he caused Ezra. Despite his pleas not to, Ladd is overcome by grief and takes to the sky, blowing himself to atoms with a surge of psychic energy.
Ezra is heartbroken by Ladd's suicide, falling in tears with Brian as his only comfort while Spider-Kid swings away to parts unknown.
