Appearance:
Usually dresses in his trademark outfit, an old weather-beaten karate gi. At one time it was white, and it has since had the sleeves ripped off at the shoulders, and the cuffs of the pants are frayed. Around his waist Ryu wears a faded black obi (belt) adorned with ebroidered gold kanji symbols that mark him as a Grand Master of Shotokan Karate. He usually goes barefooted, and wears brown leather fist bracers on his hands. Around his head he wears a crimson bandana that holds his scruffy short brown hair out of his eyes. His face is usually covered in a permanent five o' clock shadow, and his icy blue eyes burn with determination. He has a bodybuilder's physique, a gymnast's agility, and a dancer's grace.
Personality:
Ryu is the embodiment of a modern samurai. He has a very calm, quiet, demeanor, almost taciturn one could say. However, he is very friendly at heart, and would give the shirt off his back to a friend in need, even though he himself has nearly nothing. In battle, Ryu is alike a changing storm, at one moment a gentle breeze awaiting his opponent's attack, and in the next instant he's a raging hurricane of offense. He has an iron will, an unbreakable code of honor, a a determination matched only by his kindness. However, there is a dark side to him, one that threatens him almost daily...
Fighting Style:
Martial Arts
Ryu is a 10th dan black belt and Grand Master in Shotokan Karate, along with years of knowledge from countless other fighting styles. He could be considered at least a black belt equivelent in judo, kung-fu, shoot-fighting, tae kwon do, boxing, ninjutsu, and kickboxing, and has a smattering of knowledge from other areas as well. Ryu's most potent ability is his skill at adapting nearly instantly to any hand to hand fighting style, and taking it on for his own.
Powers/Abilities/Skills:
Along with his martial arts prowess, Ryu has mastered Shotokan's secrets of the Hadou technique, a fearsome ki based ability. Using this, Ryu is able to throw devastating fireballs, use ki to amplify his kicking power, and channel energy through his fist to perform his famous (and feared) Dragon Punch.
Weapons/Equipment:
Hands and feet. Doesn't prefer weapons, but has been known to improvise on the spot, and is proficient with many weapons, both martial arts and firearms from his many travels. He carries a small duffel bag with him, with a few meager belongings in it.
History/Life Story:
Born the son of a Japanese woman and a German soldier, Ryu grew up in a small simple house in Japan. Around age 6, recognizing her son't natural abilities, his mother enrolled Ryu in a private martial arts dojo. There, along with another boy, Ken, they trained under the hand of Grand Master Gouken. Until the age of 18, both boys endured countless hours of strenuous labor and repetitive exercises, all the while learning the secrets of Shotokan Karate. When Gouken felt that he had taught them all he could, he set them to test their skills by fire in the world, which they did. Upon leaving the dojo, the boys entered a martial arts tournament hosted by the Muay Thai Emporor Sagat, undefeated street fighter. Ken eventually lost in the tournament, but Ryu not only defeated every single opponent that day, but defeated the unstoppable Sagat with a Dragon Punch so fierce it burned a scar into the Thai fighter's chest. orld Warrior champion, and began roaming the globe as a vagabond, testing his skills. He doesn't seek fame, fortune, or glory...only the fight is important...
